Latvia

In this region, there are many descendants of Scandinavians, as well as German, Polish and Russian populations, so the Christian denominations are varied with Lutheranism, Catholicism, and Orthodox Christianity, all in need of increased youth ministry.

Churches invited Young Life to come to this region and help them meet the growing need. Experienced Young Life leaders from Ukraine relocated and are committed to expanding the work in the Baltics. These seasoned staff members have established new roots in Riga, Latvia, and found there is a large group of unreached kids who are yearning to hear more about Jesus.

Life in the 1980s, when many of today's adults were growing up under communist rule, was void of discussion about God. For many of them who are now the parents of teens, there is confusion about how to provide their children with spiritual direction. Churches in this region have asked Young Life FSU to partner with them to reach these kids and their families. As kids and their families begin to have relationships with Jesus, there is real potential for change! Young Life is excited to be a part of it by providing camps, clubs, family support and a close partnership with the church community.
